Over the past 18 months, I’ve been walking through one of the most transformational journeys of my life—and I didn’t even know I needed it, but I did so I could help others.

This spring, I completed my certification as a Certified Primal Question Coach under the guidance of Mike Foster. It involved hours of reading, personal reflection, coaching practicums, leadership workshops with church staff teams, and even building out the resources and website to support others on this same path.
But the greatest work wasn’t what I accomplished—it was what I discovered.
I found me.
Through the Primal Question framework, I came face to face with a core emotional need that had been silently shaping my life and leadership for over 40 years. My Primal Question is “Am I wanted?”—and that question was imprinted on my heart as a fourth grader growing up in South Georgia. I didn’t realize how much that moment had influenced every relationship, every team dynamic, and every leadership decision since.
The Primal Question gave me something I never had before: vocabulary.
Language to understand what I feel when things don’t go right.
Language to recognize when I’m scrambling—working harder, reaching farther, overextending myself emotionally and physically—all because something deep inside of me is afraid of hearing a “No” to that question.
I also began to notice how bad childhood logic had wired a kind of avoidance mechanism in me—if I didn’t ask “Am I wanted?”, then I couldn’t be rejected. But what I avoided was also what I needed most.
And here’s the beautiful part:
My greatest emotional need has also become my greatest gift.
I’m a connector.
I love bringing people together.
I see the ones standing on the edge of the room. I want them in the circle. I make it my mission to include them—not because it’s strategic, but because it’s sacred.
That’s what this journey has shown me. And that’s what I want to help you discover too.
As a Certified Primal Question Coach, I now walk alongside pastors, worship leaders, ministry teams, and church staff to help them uncover their own emotional question. It’s the key to understanding why we do what we do, why we burn out, and why we sometimes feel stuck—even when we love Jesus and love our calling.
