Holy Week Is Not a Sprint—Worship Leaders, Read This.
You’re planning for the cross and the resurrection… but don’t forget to care for your own soul along the way. Here’s a Holy Week reminder for every worship and music leader who’s running on empty.
Holy Week is beautiful, powerful… and exhausting.
Worship and music leaders often feel the full weight of it—multiple services, back-to-back rehearsals, coordinating volunteers, troubleshooting tech, and carrying the emotional tone of Good Friday into the celebration of Easter Sunday. You pour out your heart, your energy, your time, and often, your rest.
But here’s the reminder you may need this week:
You’re not just leading worship—you’re also a worshiper.
You’re not just managing people—you’re also a person.
You’re not just planning a resurrection celebration—you’re walking with the Resurrected One, too.
Here are a few ways to take care of your soul as you lead others:
1. Pause and Pray Before You Press Play
Before you hit the stage, the planning center, or the print button—pause and center yourself. A five-minute prayer can reset your spirit and remind you why you’re doing what you’re doing.
“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.” (Psalm 51:10)
2. Schedule a Moment of Sabbath—Even This Week
You may not get a full day off, but find a pocket of time that is just yours. Turn off your phone. Breathe. Sit with the Lord. Even a 30-minute walk or a quiet coffee with no agenda can be a reset button for your heart.
3. Delegate and Don’t Apologize
You’re not failing by letting someone else handle a cue or run the slides. Empower your team—don’t try to be Jesus this week. Just point people to Him.
4. Let the Gospel Speak to You, Too
It’s tempting to move into “performance mode,” making sure everything looks like resurrection while your soul feels more like the tomb. Don’t fake it—receive it. The cross and empty grave are for you, too.
5. Remember: You're Not Alone
Reach out to another worship leader. Send a text. Share a prayer. Even a “you hanging in there?” from someone who gets it can make all the difference. We need each other!
This week matters.
But you matter, too.
Don’t let the cross be a burden you carry alone this week. Let it be the place you lay yours down again.
Grace and strength to you as you serve our risen King.
